Librarian
On Monday I had Librarian with Samantha l, Samantha W and Monique.
First of all we went to the library and some books and beanbags. Then we walked down to the juniors. On the way we asked lots of juniors if they wanted to listen and most of them said no. We found about 3 students that said yes.
When we found a couple more people we sat down an Samantha W started reading. The book was about love between animals. When she was finished Samantha L read a Barbie book. While she was reading it a few more people turned up.
When we were done we returned the books and bean bags. (What I did).
I showed Respect by listening to the reader.

Merit Evidence helping out around the school 1
Helping out around the school/ Bake Sale
On Wednesday we had the bake sale. It is fundraising for the year 8's trip to Wellington at the end of they year. All the year 8's had to bring in a plate of baking if they wanted the money to be taken off their fee.
Around 11 the student leaders had to set up. We brought tables from the class out and set up a station. Then we brought out the food. There was around 15 different plates per table.
When we were finished setting up we got the first class out. Lots of people came and bought things.
We asked the rest of the classes and again there were heaps of people.
Most of the food sold at our table and everyone else's. (What we did).
I showed Community by helping at the table.

Merit Evidence Librarian 4
Librarian
On Monday I had Librarian with Samantha L.
First we went to the library and got 2 Barbie books ( Barbie a Pet Vet and a Fashion Fairy tale) and 3 bean bags.
Afterwards we walked down to the juniors and put the beanbags on the deck. Then we went and asked some juniors if they wanted to read a book. We struggled at first to find some but then we asked a whole group and they wanted to.
Next we read the book. I read Barbie a Pet Vet first. It was really fun reading it but it was also hard because the sun was in my eyes and all the juniors wanted to see the pictures. Then Samantha read. She read Barbie a Fashion Fairy tale.
Once we finished reading we took the books and beanbags back to the library and went and enjoyed the rest of our lunch time. (What I did)
I showed all the C.A.R.E values because I did my duty on time and for the required time and I tried my hardest with it.

Today I had Kapa Haka.
When I got there I took my shoes off and entered the hall quickly and quietly and went straight to my spot.
Soon after I arrived Kapa Haka started. The first song we did was He honere. We went through this song twice because the first time it was too quiet.
The next song we did was Whakatakatehau. We did this once but we stopped before we finished because some people sang it wrong. Then Matua Rihari said that maybe we would cut the end of the song for the Cultural Festival.
Then we sang Pa Mai. We did this song twice. We did it twice because the foot hitting was out of time. The last song we sang was Tahurihuri. We only sang this once because after that it was time to go. (What I did)
I showed Community and Respect by helping others if they were stuck and Respect by listening to the commands. (What I did)
I showed Respect by listening to the commands and Excellence because I was resilient when we had to sing the song heaps.

Merit Evidence being a role model for the Kakano team 2
Being a role model for the Kakano team/leadership in the food forest
The past 2 days the year 8 and a couple of year 7 have been working down in the junior area helping with their schoolwork and in the Food Forest.
In the Food Forest we had to help by harvesting the seeds with the year 4 and putting them in paper bags ready for planting next time and pulling out all the weeds and unnecessary plants.
To harvest the seeds you have to pick the nearly dead flowers and there should be seeds on them. Next you put them in the paper bag with the correct name for the plant. The year 4 got to pick the seeds while the year 8 put them in the bag and name the bags. We did this in the last part of the first block on Wednesday.
When we were pulling out the weeds we had 1 group making a chicken tractor which is a fenced area in the Food Forest where the chickens can run around in. While they were doing that the other groups were walking around pulling out weeds and unnecessary plants. We did this for the whole middle block on Wednesday.
When we were down at the juniors the first thing we did was go to the library. We helped pick out books with them and read them with them and I also got to read a book to the whole class. When we got back to their class (room 19) it was time for Fruit Break. Miss V read them 2 books while they were eating. Once that as done it was time for Work Stations.
For the work stations there were 4/5 stations. I was at the Reading station. I helped them with there reading and I also read to them. I did this for the whole first block on Thursday.
I found working in the Food Forest and being with the juniors really fun.
I still have 1 and a half days to go. Here are some photos of us at the Food Forest. (What we did).

Swimming Sports
On Friday the Kauri team had Swimming sports at Jelly Park. The Kakano team also went but they got to go in the outside pool and just play while the Kauri team competed in races and games for the houses.
When we arrived the house captains got taken to a line of seats in front of the pool. We got to sit there because so we could cheer on everyone competing. While I was sitting Mr Ladbrook came over and asked the house captains what one of us wanted to demonstrate the start for the width races. I put my hand up and I got chosen. I headed down there and demonstrated it.
Next it was time for the width races to start. All the house captains moved from their seats to the side of the pool so we could cheer on all the people racing. One little girl got scared so Sam W jumped in and gave her a piggy back so she could finish the race. After that we just cheered om everyone till the width races were finished.
After the width races it was time for the house challenges. My groups activity was Madness and we were up first. You play Madness by throwing lots of objects into the pool and time the houses to see who can do it the fastest.
Next the other group do their activity. Their activity was the Biggest Splash. You play this by getting 2 houses lined up (lengths way). Then you say go and everyone will hold onto the edge and go on their tummies and do the biggest splash they can by kicking.
After that we went outside to join the Kakano for lunch.
When we got back it was time for the length races. I was competing in these races so I had to get ready. When my race was called I went over and received my lane number. I did this twice for both of my races. I ended up coming first in both my events.
At the end of all the length races it was time for the class relays. We did it in year levels. In my year level my relay team came first. (What I did).
I showed Excellence by trying my hardest.
