I can apply my knowledge of adverbial clauses and connectives to see how ideas are linked in texts.
For reading I have been learning about adverbial clauses. I have found this learning good because I had forgotten what an adverbial clause is and it refreshed my memory.
In this activity (link to adverbial clause activity), I had to.....

I can recognise and understand a variety of grammatical and some rhetorical patterns
In this unit I have been learning about....
- The parts of speech
- The types of nouns
- The types of sentences
In this unit, I found challenging the task about different types of nouns eg proper nouns, abstract nouns, common nouns and collective nouns.
Something new I learnt was how much I already knew about the parts of speech and types of sentences.

Excellence Evidence Kapa Haka 9
Kapa Haka
On Friday I had Kapa Haka. We started early so we would have more time to practice.
First I walked respectfully down to the hall and took my shoes off in the hall foyer. Then I entered the hall respectfully and sat down in my spot. When everyone had arrived we started warming up our voices.
Once we had done this we went through our cultural festival performance.
The first time was a little bit quiet but we improved from there.
We stopped a few times just to fix little things. When the performance was just about perfect Mr Brown asked the senior staff (principal and deputy principal) to come watch.
We sang as loud as we could and did the poi and raku really well. The staff thought we did really well.
After this we were allowed to leave.
I showed Respect by transitioning to the hall and back quietly.
I showed leadership by doing the actions up the front.

Excellence Evidence Librarian 6
Librarian
On Monday I had Librarian with Samantha L, Samantha W, Monique, Xanthe and Isabella.
First we went to the library and got a one book and a couple of bean bags. Once we had got these we walked down to the junior area.
When we got there Samantha W, Monique and Xanthe sat down on the deck while the rest of us went around asking little kids if they wanted to listen to a story. We found a few little kids so we directed them over to the deck.
When everyone was there Samantha W started reading. She was reading a book about bears doing exercise. All the little kids were really respectful and everyone enjoyed the story.
When we were done we returned the books and bean bags to the library and went out to lunch. (What I did).
I showed Respect by listening to the reader.
I showed leadership by role modelling what I wanted others to do.

First I walked respectfully down to the hall and took my shoes off in the foyer. Then I entered the hall and stood in my spot.
When everyone had arrived we warmed up our voices. We sang He Honere. After that we sang Pa Mai. I thought it sounded better than last time so we are making progress in this song.
Next we went through our performance. The first time we were really quiet but Mr Brown said if we did it really well next time we could leave early. The second time we sang much better and could go. Our performance routine is getting better as well. (What I did).
I showed Respect by listening to the commands.

Evaluating author's purpose
In reading we have been learning to make decisions about the usefulness of the text for the purpose, by using a variety of criteria to evaluate.

My CARE progress
CARE
The one thing that I can do to improve my progress in CARE is finish my SML every week and focus on my learning.
I have done a check of my CARE progress so far this year.
I am proud of my progress this year as I have reached my Bronze.
I am quite far away from my Silver as I have just got my Bronze but I'm trying really hard to get more ticks.
The area of CARE that I need to try harder in is Community because I need to offer to help a little bit more.
To achieve my BRONZE/SILVER award quicker I need to show all the CARE values and work hard in my learning.
